Case study - Louwman Amigo
Engineering a smarter car sharing platform

The Challenge
The Louwman Group, a century-old leader in automotive distribution, recognized a shift in mobility: cars are expensive, often remain stationary, and younger generations are moving from ownership to use. They sought to create "Amigo," a social car-sharing network that allows users to share a lease car with their friends and family unburdened by administrative hassle.
Engineering & Craftsmanship
Baseflow developed the Amigo app and its underlying platform, turning a complex mobility concept into a frictionless digital reality. Key technical accomplishments included:
We engineered the app to replace physical car keys entirely, using the smartphone to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle.
We built a system that automatically calculates and divides monthly lease costs among a group based on actual vehicle usage.
The platform manages everything from car reservations and location tracking to trip history and billing.
We began with workshops to map out customer journeys and established a clear style guide and backlog to ensure the final product matched the brand’s high standards.

Business result
Amigo has successfully redefined the private lease model:
The platform significantly increases the use per vehicle, making car ownership more sustainable and affordable.
The app provides an "all-in-one" experience, from booking to driving, removing the traditional friction of car sharing.
Enabled a legacy distributor to enter the emerging shared mobility market with a highly competitive product.
Summary
Amigo demonstrates how traditional industries can leverage software to meet changing consumer demands. By focusing on "people over process," Baseflow and Louwman created a product that brings the advantages of car sharing to a wider audience.
